Vettel frustrated by "disruptive day" as Ferrari endure more woe

Sebastian Vettel endured another day of frustration as thorny issues blighted his preparation for the British Grand Prix.

Vettel completed just 23 laps across the two practice sessions at Silverstone due to reliability problems, sparked by a minor fault with the intercooler system in FP1.

That resulted in him sitting out the session, bar for two installation laps, and finishing at the foot of the timesheet without recording a lap time.

In FP2, Ferrari was forced to change the pedals in Vettel's SF1000, while he also complained of power issues at one stage, leaving him down in 18th, 1.856s down on pacesetter Lance Stroll in his Racing Point.

"It was a disruptive day," said Vettel. "We had an issue with the brake pedal and we had to stop and fix that, so it was a bit difficult to get into a rhythm but I think overall, little bits to learn from and take away for tomorrow.

"I think we need to improve the car and we will see where we are tomorrow."

Because of the pedal problem, Vettel was unable to set a low-fuel, soft-tyre fast lap. He added: "It failed on the first run and then I was probably a bit off and a bit out of rhythm.

"Especially around here you need a couple of good laps, and we didn't have many laps in general."

Although the weather is expected to be around 10 degrees centigrade cooler on Saturday, Vettel knows a more favourable track surface will not hold all the answers.

"I'm hoping we come up with something," assessed Vettel.

"I think on my side a lot of it will come down naturally overnight and we will have a better day tomorrow."
