Albon gets Ricciardo's old race engineer as Red Bull make changes

Alex Albon will be supported by a new race engineer from this weekend's British Grand Prix as Simon Rennie returns to a trackside role with Red Bull.

Rennie previously worked with Mark Webber in 2013 and then Daniel Ricciardo from 2014 to 2018 prior to the Australian's departure to Renault.

After deciding to step back from travelling, Rennie returned to a factory-based position and was replaced by Mike Lugg, who initially worked with Pierre Gasly and then Albon last season.

Red Bull has now decided to bring Rennie back to the track, with Lugg making the move to the factory.

"As a team, we are committed to maximising the performance of the RB16 and our drivers as we continue our championship campaign in this shortened and condensed season," said Red Bull.

Albon will be hoping Rennie can help improve his season as he has struggled so far, although he has the support of team principal Christian Horner.

Albon insists he is feeling upbeat ahead of the forthcoming double-header at Silverstone - the British and 70th Anniversary Grands Prix.

"I feel pretty good," said Albon. "Obviously as a team, it hasn’t been an ideal start to the season but aside from the DNF, we’ve been able to score some good points.

"I think with that being said, the car can only improve so I’m feeling positive. We know the areas we need to work on and with Silverstone being a home race close to the factory, that’s good news.

"I think we can hopefully get a good result there. Historically it’s been a pretty good track for the team, and it’s one I really enjoy driving."
