Bottas: Second place was "damage limitation"

Valtteri Bottas said his second-place finish at the Styrian Grand Prix was "damage limitation" after he finished behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

After starting from fourth on the grid, Bottas was able to make his way past Max Verstappen in the closing stages to complete a Mercedes one-two at the Red Bull Ring.

Hamilton triumphed in the race in comfortable fashion, a week after Bottas himself had won the first race of the 2020 season, with only Verstappen troubling the Mercedes dominance throughout a straightforward afternoon.

Bottas, pleased to have made up positions in the race after a poor qualifying session, told Sky Sports F1: "Lewis had a good start and he could control the race.

"There was not quite as much happening as last week but from my side, starting fourth, today was damage limitation.

"I'm still leading [the championship], so it's not too bad. It was a good battle with Max [Verstappen], I think in the end I had quite a bit more pace than him, racing closely is always good fun.

"I can always be more satisfied, but it's not been bad, the first couple of races."

The 2020 season continues next weekend in Hungary, before the British Grand Prix at the beginning of August.
