Top three F1 teams oppose Liberty merchandising plan

Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull are reportedly against Liberty Media's new proposal to sell Grand Prix merchandise all together under the one roof rather than have individual stalls set up by the teams themselves, with the Prancing Horse the outfit most opposed to the plans.

Liberty Media have been in charge of F1 for around a year now and have already started to implement changes to the sport to meet their vision of how it should be.

Traditionally at Formula One events, each team is able to sell their own merchandise where, when, and how they see fit, but Liberty is proposing a change to this so that everything is sold together.

F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches has revealed that the teams are in favour of this change.

"We have done extensive research and all the race promoters support the plan," Bratches told by Turun Sanomat newspaper.

However, the same publication reports that Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari are all opposed to the plan, with the Scuderia in particular eager not to lose their stalls and the power of their famous red branding.

"Throughout history, Ferrari has sold more merchandise than any other team and they have no trouble finding the red of what they are looking for," a unnamed source at Ferrari told Turun Sanomat.

"If the fans are impatient, they will not go to a big hall where they have to go a long way to find where they want. I believe we will lose revenue with this new structure."
