Record number of Formula 1 drivers to compete in Virtual Monaco GP

Formula 1 has confirmed a record number of real-world drivers will compete in the Virtual Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday.

Taking the place of the annual trip to the principality, eight F1 stars will compete alongside sports personalities, sim racers and celebrities.

Making their Virtual Grand Prix series debuts will be Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and Renault's Esteban Ocon.

Williams will again be the only team fielding both of its 2020 drivers, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi, while Alex Albon [Red Bull], Antonio Giovinazzi [Alfa Romeo], Lando Norris [McLaren] and Charles Leclerc [Ferrari], all return to the series.

Sebastian Vettel has also been competing in online competitions but, as with Max Verstappen, the German has elected to focus on the iRacing platform rather than the Codemasters Formula 1 release.

Away from the real-world racers, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes his debut for McLaren, surfer Kai Lenny partners Albon at Red Bull and Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois continues his campaign with Alfa Romeo.

The racing will commence on Saturday at 17:00 BST, with a pre-exhibition race preceding the Virtual GP.
