Ocon expects all lap records to be broken in 2020

Esteban Ocon claims that this year’s 2020 Formula One cars will break lap records throughout the season.

With the upcoming campaign seeing minimum rule changes, most teams have made upgrades to the cars seen from last season which could result in a significant increase in power

Ocon had a positive session in Barcelona testing as he secured third place in lap classifications.

Speaking to media afterwards, he waxed lyrical about the performance of the new cars.

“I have never gone that fast in some corners before. It feels good," he said.

“It is definitely exciting because we are going to go faster and faster. We’re probably going to break all the records this year of lap times.”

The Renault driver suggests that the constant changing of the cars has led to this point and that it makes each car different from its previous incarnation.

“If you take in account the fastest lap time, we are already faster than the fastest last year from the first day. The car is evolving year-by-year, and it is hard to compare," he explained.

The 23-year-old was only 1.370 seconds off the pace from Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas and completed 11 more laps than the Finn on the final day.
