Russell ends 2019 on top after Leclerc crashes in Abu Dhabi

George Russell made the most of his latest outing in a Mercedes to end Formula 1's final on-track action of 2019 at the top of the leaderboard.

Russell had been in the Williams on Tuesday's sessions, but switched to Mercedes for the second day, with the Silver Arrows having also gone quickest on day one via Valtteri Bottas.

As was the case on Monday, Ferrari's running was not without interruption.

On day one, Sebastian Vettel was tapped into a spin by Sergio Perez, while Charles Leclerc's running a day later came to a premature end after contact with the barriers at Turn 13.

Russell completed 145 laps for Mercedes, but Pierre Gasly topped the mileage board with one more tour of the Yas Marina Circuit in the Toro Rosso under his belt.

All drivers in action reached triple figures for laps, bar Roy Nissany, at Williams, who also gave 2020 driver Nicholas Latifi a run.
