Hamilton apologises to Albon for Brazil GP crash

Lewis Hamilton admitted full responsibility for his last-gasp collision with Alexander Albon, which robbed the Red Bull driver a maiden F1 podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Valtteri Bottas' retirement and a crash between Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel gave the end of the Interlagos race a chaotic feel, although Max Verstappen cruised to a dominant victory regardless.

Pierre Gasly skated through the scene of Hamilton and Albon's collision to take his first podium in F1.

With stewards taking a look at Hamilton and Albon's incident, with Carlos Sainz potentially he man to benefit with a maiden 'podium' of his own, the Briton seemed to expect punishment would follow.

"I massively apologise to Albon," he said.

"I went for a move, the gap was kind of there, but obviously it closed at the end and completely my fault.

"But still a great race Max did a fantastic job today and they just outclassed us in terms of overall performance and we couldn't keep up with them on the straights.

"But I raced my heart out, I gave it everything, I put everything on the table and I took a lot of risks today. We threw everything and the sink at it. I don't think there's anything we could do."
