Hamilton: Mercedes have no weak link, unlike other teams

Lewis Hamilton believes that one of the major contributing factors to Mercedes success over the last few years is that they have no “weak link”, while other teams aren’t as strong throughout every department.

At the Japanese Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows earned enough points to win their sixth consecutive constructors’ championship, with Hamilton also likely to taste more success soon as he needs only a handful of points to win the 2019 drivers’ title.

Their domination has been attributed to their car, their management, their engineers, and their drivers in the past, but the Brit reckons it is a combination of them all, as each factor is vital in its own right.

“Fantastic job and that just shows how much strength in depth we have through all our people that we work with in the team,” Hamilton told Sky Sports after winning the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.

"There's not one weak link in our team and that's why we are winning world titles. We are fighting against other good teams, but they have weak links and they make a lot more mistakes than we do."

Hamilton has a love/hate relationship with the race in Mexico, as in the last two years he has won the title, but without having claimed a place on the podium. Throughout the week before the GP Mercedes played down their chances, but he thinks hard work saw them through to the win.

"There is so much work that goes on in the background and this weekend we knew that we were up against a serious challenge," he explained.

"We knew it was going to be a tough weekend for us. You saw in qualifying, we didn't have the true pace. The race pace was not as great also, the tyres fell off on Friday, but we just kept our cool and keep working at it."

The five-time world champion will add a sixth title to his collection if he finishes eighth or higher in the next race in the United States.
