Formula 1 has announced a ground-breaking deal to broadcast the Mexican Grand Prix on streaming service Twitch.
A feed will be available in free to users in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Twitch is mostly populated by gaming streams. Indeed, McLaren star Lando Norris is a regular on the platform and has almost 150,000 followers.
Norris often posts streams of himself playing iRacing with Red Bull counterpart Max Verstappen.
An F1 statement read: "As part of the deal, interactivity and gaming elements will be added to the broadcast to really drive engagement from the community. Each session will be “co-streamed” by a select group of prominent, in-market personalities, including leading German gaming influencer PietSmiet, in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
"F1 will also include a data extension alongside the broadcast that allows users to predict the performance of drivers during 10-minute segments of the Grand Prix.
"The predictions will then be ranked and displayed according to their accuracy, providing an interactive gaming element to the broadcast."
F1 has tried to move its broadcasts to more digital platforms in recent years, including the much-maligned F1 TV Pro - an OTT offering from F1 that saw customers run into several technical problems.
