Nicholas Latifi will have the chance to press his case to be appointed by Williams for the 2020 season in three consecutive FP1 runs at upcoming grands prix.

The Canadian has lost out to Nyck de Vries in the Formula 2 title race with a round left to go, but he seems to be the closest to graduating from the feeder series next year, with De Vries having opted for a Formula E deal with Mercedes.

Latifi is well-backs financially and has been put forward as a leading candidate to replace Robert Kubica and partner George Russell next year.

He will be in the Pole's car on Friday morning in Mexico City this week, before having a run in Russell's car during FP1 at the United States Grand Prix a week later.

"I'm really excited to get back in the car in Mexico as it feels like a long time since my previous outing at Spa," he said.

"I got the chance to drive in Mexico last year in FP1, so I am familiar with what to expect.

"It's quite a unique track because of the elevation, so you have a lack of grip, which makes it challenging. As always, my goal remains the same for FP1, to have a clean session and help guide the team going into FP2."
