Red Bull leaning towards Albon to partner Verstappen in 2020?

Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko says Alexander Albon has impressed in his first few races since replacing Pierre Gasly.

Albon has finished in the top six in all four of his races for Red Bull so far, two of which have seen him start from the back of the field.

Indeed, in Russia he had to start from the pit-lane after crashing in qualifying, but recovered through the field to finish fifth, with Max Verstappen in fourth.

Marko has claimed that Albon and Gasly are the only drivers under consideration to partner Verstappen next year, so a favourable start in the top team to the Frenchman's could well secure Albon another year in the senior line-up.

"So far, all of his races have been very good," Marko told Servus TV.

"What he has done so far is a good reference for the coming season.

"The only solution for us is to have two strong drivers in 2020 in order to compete for the constructors' championship.

"His practice in Sochi was not so good. He crashed in qualifying. Alex won in Formula 2 the year before which may have made him excessively confident.

"He had to catch up in the race, but he solved this problem very well."
