Coulthard confirmed as new BRDC president

David Coulthard has been announced as the new president of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), replacing 86-year-old Paddy Hopkirk.

The Scot currently acts as a pundit for Channel 4 on their F1 highlights show as well as featuring in promotional events for Red Bull, and in an ambassadorial role with the W Series.

In addition to these roles, he will take on BRDC presidential duties, following in the footsteps of fellow F1 drivers like Damon Hill and Martin Brundle, both of whom are fellow pundits.

BRDC chairman John Grant revealed some of the reasons why Coulthard will make a suitable president, following his election to the role.

"I and my fellow Board Members are delighted to welcome David Coulthard as President of the BRDC,” Grant said in a released statement.

"In David, we have a president who is not only a greatly talented racing driver but also a successful businessman with an enviable network of contacts in the motorsport world which, together with his experience, should be of great benefit to the club.”

Other famous names to have held the role are Sir Jackie Stewart and Derek Warwick.

For Coulthard, he will be aided by Indycar legend Dario Franchitti, who has been elected as his vice-president.
