Vettel: I can't be happy with my day

A downbeat Sebastian Vettel reflected on a nightmare Italian Grand Prix and admitted that he isn't performing to anywhere near his best at the moment.

While his team-mate Charles Leclerc produced an outstanding display to take the chequered flag, Vettel toiled, losing a position off the grid before spinning and then inadvertently hampering Lance Stroll to suffer a penalty.

In the end Vettel had to allow Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton through as they were battling for the lead while he finished in 13th position.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-race, he could not hide his disappointment at his performance.

He said: "I can't be happy with my day today. I think we had a good start, I lost the position then got it back and reconnected to the cars ahead.

But then I lost the rear and couldn't catch it so it's as simple as that and after that the race was gone."

On obstructing Stroll, he added: "I struggled a couple of times to get the car going and get it in the right direction as well so I couldn't see him."

When asked if he still enjoyed racing in F1, Vettel was not entirely convincing in his response:

He concluded: "I still love what I do, but surely when you are not doing well when you know you can do well then you can't be happy."
