Leclerc 'never been so tired' after thrilling Monza win

A buoyant Charles Leclerc says he has never been as tired after a Formula 1 race than after the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday in which he emerged victorious in front of the partisan Ferrari supporters.

The Monegasque driver returned from the summer break with a win at the Belgian GP at Spa last weekend - his first ever in F1. He continued that form in Italy as he bravely fought off the attentions of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who both looked poised to hunt him down at different points.

In the end, Leclerc’s Ferrari powered him to the emotional win in Ferrari’s home race, and he admits the battle has left him weary.

“What a race. I've never been so tired,” he said after claiming the flag.

During the duels with Hamilton in particular, the 21-year-old took to some zigzag moves in the line of the car in behind to fight away the Mercedes, which left him with a warning from the stewards.

Even with the win the bag, he knows he needs to cut out the errors.

“I did a few mistakes, but at the end I finished first.” he added.

“I need to be careful with the mistakes but none of them stopped me from finishing first today.”
