Hamilton given title warning by Bottas

Valtteri Bottas insists the title race is not yet over, and has warned everyone including championship leader Lewis Hamilton that he’ll continue to fight for points until the end.

The Finn claimed pole position for the British Grand Prix on Sunday and looked poised to defend against the attention of Hamilton to claim the flag at Silverstone, but an unfortunately-timed safety car period meant the Brit was basically given free time to pit.

Hamilton took advantage to go P1 on hard tyres knowing that Bottas would have to pit near the end on soft first.

Bottas laments the presence of the safety car which hindered his assault on Hamilton, but has vowed to keep on battling in the championship race.

“I don't really know what to say. Obviously congrats to Lewis and the massive support over here for him,” he said.

“I stopped first and I was controlling the pitstop gap. With the safety car, Lewis got a free stop there, and got me there. I also went on mediums which meant I had to stop in the end. So, not really my day, but at least the pace was good.

“For sure there are positives. Yesterday (in qualifying) I was the quickest on the track and I think the race was good today.

“I'll keep fighting. It's not over yet.”
