Williams sign W Series leader Chadwick

Jamie Chadwick's swift ascent up the motorsport echelons has continued, with the British driver signing a development team with Williams. Chadwick is the first female winner of the British GT Championship and is the early-season championship leader in W Series.

Chadwick will take on simulator duties for Williams, as well as attending three races in Europe. Her first official appearance for the team will be at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old became the first female race-winner in British Formula 3 last year and won the inaugural W Series race just last month at Hockenheim.

Her signing by a Formula 1 team will be a huge boost for the all-female series, whose stated aim is to help women drivers into the upper reaches of motorsport.

Chadwick said: "It is a great honour to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy.

"The time in the simulator is a fantastic opportunity to aid with my development. I look forward to spending time in the factory at Grove, immersing myself within the team and assisting wherever I can.

"Being a part of the Driver Academy is an amazing platform and I'm excited to get started."

Will a W Series driver make it to F1?

Williams' deputy team principal Claire Williams attended the W Series' race in Hockenheim and added: "Promoting women in motorsport is extremely important and having a female role model as part of our Driver Academy will hopefully inspire young girls to take up racing at a young age.

"We hope to show that motorsport is inclusive and exciting, be that as a driver or on the engineering side. Jamie is a great talent and I look forward to working with her."
