Silverstone has came out and denied rumours that they have agreed a new deal to extend their contract with Formula 1 for another three years through to the 2022 season. This comes after respected F1 journalist Joe Saward revealed that an agreement had been struck with Liberty Media.
Doubt was previously shrouded over the very existence of the British Grand Prix after the British Racing Driver’s Club activated a clause in their contract for it to finish early, with reports suggesting it was simply too expensive to hold the race every year.
The alleged deal was revealed on Monday by Group F1 Editor of Motorsport Monday, Saward.
However, since the news broke, Silverstone have announced that no new agreement has been made, and that talks are ongoing.
Following this statement, at this time Silverstone have not agreed a contract regarding the future of the British Grand Prix. We are able to confirm that talks are still progressing.
