Will Smith's production company strike deal to bring A-listers to F1

Did you enjoy Will Smith mixing it with Lewis Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of last season? If you did, there's likely to be plenty more where that came from, as Smith's production company has struck a deal to produce more crossover content involving celebrities at F1 circuits.

Smith and Hamilton produced a series of videos in Abu Dhabi, including a race with Smith's son Trey, as a pre-cursor to the Facebook Watch series 'The Bucket List', which has been created by his production company, Westbrook Studios.

F1 clearly liked what they saw and have struck terms with the A-List actor's studio to produce similar content from the 2020 season.

Smith said in a statement: “I’ve always been a massive fan of the Formula 1 world and fell even more in love with the sport while shooting an episode of ‘Will Smith’s The Bucket List’ with Lewis Hamilton at last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“F1’s commitment to creating engaging and inspiring content for its fans mirrors our mission at Westbrook Studios. The synergy of our storytelling is undeniable, and I’m excited for fans to join us on this wild ride.”

Smith will be Executive Producer on the project, which is likely to centre around other celebrities being involved in stunts or viral videos, as well as appearing at circuits on F1 weekends.

F1 has always been keen to court celebrity, and just this weekend in Bahrain saw David Beckham waving the chequered flag. It is clear that Liberty Media want the sport to appeal to a wider demographic and this collaboration is a clear step towards broadening their output.
