Floersch return to racing confirmed

Sophia Floersch has confirmed she will return to racing in 2019 in the Formula European Masters with Van Amersfoort Racing as she continues to recover from injuries sustained in a frightening crash during the Macau Grand Prix's F3 race last month.

Floersch sustained spinal fractures after being pitched into the air and crashing into a photographers' bunker at the famous street race.

Team boss Frits van Amersfoort has told Motorsport that the team have recovered parts from the crash on eBay after they were stolen from the crash site.

However, there was better news on the future plans of Floersch, who will resume racing in the series that will begin its inaugural season next year as a replacement for the European F3 championship, which the German competed in during 2018.

"I am convinced that Formula European Masters is the perfect race series for me," said Floersch.

"The car is fantastic, and it offers young drivers the opportunity to learn a lot. I love to keep on competing for VAR as I feel really comfortable in the team.

"It certainly wasn't easy at the beginning as I had absolutely no F3 experience, but they taught me a lot and now I want to celebrate successes with them."

Van Amersfoort said of Floersch: "She's recovering quite well and she's in very good spirits – hopefully she can start some gentle running on the simulator next month."
