Raikkonen shrugs off contract speculation

Kimi Raikkonen says he is not affected by continuous speculation regarding his future with Ferrari as he has dealt with all the stories in the sport for 15 years, insisting the only reason he is still behind the wheel is because he loves driving.

Raikkonen's contract with the Prancing Horse expires at the end of the 2018 campaign and there is mounting suspicion that they may try and replace him with a younger driver, with Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo mentioned as possible recruits.

He has not won a Grand Prix in this stint with Ferrari, but remained as calm as ever when quizzed about his future.

“It’s been the same story every year since I can remember, maybe 15 years, every year I’m out.” Raikkonen said.

The Finn has had a season of ups and downs so far, as he has earned a position on the podium, but also was involved in an accident in the pitlane during the Bahrain Grand Prix which saw a Ferrari worker suffered a horrible broken leg.

He only keeps fighting for races because he enjoys competing, however, and remains positive about Ferrari's chances in the 2018 season.

“I’ll do my stuff on my side. I enjoy the racing, that’s the only reason I’m here. The rest, we’ll see how it plays out.”

“In the team we know what we want to do and i fall those things fit together with all our feeling we’ll see what happens. Right now all I want to do is well it’s a long season and a long way until the end of the year.”
