Mercedes announce a multi-year partnership with AMD

Mercedes have confirmed a new multi-year partnership with former Ferrari sponsor, 'high-performance computing leader' AMD, but the team are yet to sign up to race past the current season.

Sitting at the top of the Formula One pyramid, a position they have held for six consecutive years, the chances of Mercedes reign continuing are not high, if history is to be believed, so it isn't entirely without merit the the German manufacturer is taking its time to make a commitment.

It is interesting to note then that, in the press release, sent out on Monday evening, that the only details revealed about the multi-year partnership concern 2020 - the deal meaning that company logos will be visible on team branding, race suits and on either side of the driver cockpits.

"Innovation is at the heart of Formula One, we always try and push the technological boundaries in our hunt for performance," said Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff. "We are delighted to have AMD join our team as a partner and we look forward to the journey ahead of us as we explore sophisticated solutions to unlock untapped performance potential."

The deal will also see Mercedes utilize AMD products throughout their workstations at the circuits.
